Friday was a stunning day at Struisbaai with the weather predictions for an even better day later on and we decided to take the kids for a day on the water. A little bit of wind still caused some chop but that died down very soon and we had an awesome day.
The kids, and the grown ups, quickly got stuck into some nice bottom fish like red roman, red stumpnose, wildeperd and blacktails. In between this we also caught an assortment of spiny dogfish and barbel. Two of the youngster teamed up against a big ray that was hooked on a light rod, relieving each other every few minutes, but they eventually lost the fight after 45 minutes when the line parted. A few smaller bronze whalers and tope sharks also gave them a good run on the light tackle.
A lovely red steenbras of 60cm and 3 stunning red stumpnose of 4+ kg each completed a stunning day on the water. The kids also saw 3 whales with one giving them a lovely wave with its tail as well as a few penquin and an assortment of birds hovering around the boat for scraps of bait.
Then it was back to the harbour and time to teach them the art of cleaning the boat - something they did with a smile and a lot of laughter.
