The sea was a bit choppy (it died down later) , but blue and a nice 17.8 degrees. Unfortunately the yellowtail was not on any of the two banks and with no bird activity in the area we decided to look for some bottom fish. After three hours of fishing we had our quota of red Stumpnose and Red Romans. We also released a nice Red Steenbras as the season for this lovely fish was still closed. Right at the end Roy landed his personal best Red Stump, but as we already had 1 each this fish was safely released. A quick trip back to the 12 Mile Bank still showed no Yellowtail, so we went of in search for Carpenters (Silverfish). This greedy and aggressive fish is huge fun on light jigging outfits as they attack the jigs with vigour. We found a nice deepwater spot and started a small competiton - 3 anglers on jigs and 3 on bait. Within 30 minutes we realised the jiggers outfished the baiters by 3-1 - AND they were catching the bigger fish, so everyone switched over to jigging rods and started working the jigs. This proved so effective thatw e pretty soon had our full quota of fish and headed for home. A great day was had by all, and with the help of the Jigstar Africa team we all sharpened our jigging skill - ready to tackle the fish on another day
